I'm Nathan, a midwest-based Recording Engineer and Producer focused on albums, bands, and capturing performances.
Recently, I’ve worked with a variety of musicians, in genres such as shoegaze, indie rock, and freak folk.
I owe my love for music to my childhood experiences in a guitar shop, taking lessons. In college, I've played in various bands, and for countless recording sessions.
My recording background began when I was a teenager, and I've been recording since. Much of my ideology and processes are reinforced by my education in analog electronics. I tech my own equipment, and I've worked as a studio tech.
I'm proficient in Pro Tools, and I record to tape. I own and maintain a Tascam 85-16b 16-track 1" recorder, and a Tascam TSR-8 8-track 1/2" recorder. In the past, I've worked primarily from my studio, studios on the Indiana University Bloomington campus, Bloomington's Primary Sound Studios, Chicago's Exit Slip, Palisade Studios, and more. I am confident working in any studio.
In 2023, I produced video content for Hum Drum Press, an indie record label from Bloomington, IN. In 2024, I recorded albums, I played gigs in Bloomington, and I made new friends. In 2025, I packed up and moved to Chicago. There, I worked in community theater, live sound, and I mixed and mastered albums.
In my time in Chicago, I was a partner at producer Jack Henry's Chicago studio, Exit Slip.
In 2026, I am continuing to make new music, new friends, and I'm exploring new avenues of creativity. Through the summer, fall, and winter of 2026, I will be located in Hawaii, where I will work as an audio engineer aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines' Pride of America. I am exploring ways to take my creative life aboard, whether that be possible by miniaturizing my mix and master setup, working on headphones, or some other idea I've yet to have.
2027 and beyond: When I return from the aloha state, I plan to return to a major metro. Though, I'm not yet sure where that will be. My intuitive idea is to move to NYC and explore opportunities to work as an audio engineer in the Broadway League. However, I see a new future in Chicago, Nashville, or Los Angeles returning my focus to recording and producing music. It won't be long before 2027 is here. I'm thrilled to have good work to do, and I can't wait for more.
Check out the projects I've been fortunate to work on.
I love making things. I am a photographer, and I practice other crafts like woodworking, analog electronic repair, engineering and design, and fixing all manner of things.
